Japanese summers are famously hot and humid, but people have long found creative ways to enjoy the season. One of them is to head outside after sunset, when the air becomes cooler, and enjoy a traditional summer night festival.

In Nada Gogo, Nishinomiya Shrine holds a beautiful evening festival during the summer. The pond inside the shrine is softly illuminated, while the gentle sound of wind chimes fills the grounds. Surrounded by shimmering lights and refreshing sounds, you may almost forget the summer heat.

And what could be better on an evening like this than a glass of perfectly chilled daiginjo sake?

My recommendation is Fukuju Daiginjo, produced by the Kobe brewery famous for serving its sake at the Nobel Prize banquet. At the brewery shop, you may also have the chance to taste its precious shizuku-zake—delicate drops of sake collected using the traditional fukuro-zuri bag-pressing method.
